project description
Over the course of two phases, Maryland's Department of Natural Resources provided $2,063,574 for the restoration of 4,800 linear feet of the mainstem of Piney Run in Baltimore County, along with 9.5 acres of riparian forest buffer and 3.7 acres of floodplain wetlands through the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund.
WCG completed a post-construction site inspection and as-built certification for the stream restoration project which focused on on floodplain reconnection, bank stabilization, localized channel realignment, and in-channel habitat enhancement. WCG observed each bank stabilization practice and assessed current and anticipated long-term stability. WCG drafted the as-built plans and certified that the stream restoration construction met the design intent of the project.
WCG’s certifying engineer completed the existing conditions channel stability assessment, restoration design, 2D hydraulic model and memo, and pre- and post-restoration 1D floodplain modeling while employed at a previous firm.
