project description

An existing industrial complex in Glendale, Arizona underwent a change in ownership which required tenant improvements and a replacement water source. The existing facility’s fire and service water was currently served by an adjacent public water system that would no longer be serving the facility, resulting in the need for the owner to replace the water system supply with a new distribution system supplied by the City of Glendale water distribution system.

WCG performed the design and construction engineering and inspection for over 1,000 lineal feet of 12-inch water distribution main for fire suppression and a parallel distribution line. This project also included the installation of five new hydrants and connection to the existing fire sprinkler system. Our team attempted to use a ground penetrating radar survey within the right of way but it was determined by others that this was not allowed by the City. This resulted in an unknown conflict with the proposed 12-inch fire main and a 42-inch gravity irrigation main during construction.

WCG worked with the City of Glendale, SRP (irrigation utility), owner, and contractor to receive City approval in just one week after completing a revised crossing design in less than 2 weeks. The quick and efficient design change allowed construction to continue and reduced design costs to lower the total project cost.
